Slowly, careful not to make any sound, Dín placed a well-crafted trap, keeping his eyes on the tiger a few feet away. He’d not taken Anarion on this hunting trip, instead choosing to face his foes alone, man versus beast, one on one. The tiger was sniffing the air suspiciously, having picked up Dín’s scent, but for the moment unable to distinguish the hunter, one with the shadows.
Dín smiled faintly. THIS was what hunting was all about; no protection, no backup, every mistake possibly lethal. Patiently, he waited for the beast to turn his head away from his. The moment the ferocious animal turned to check another direction for the phantom menace, Dín quickly rose his crossbow, and took aim.
Alerted by the sudden movement, the tiger growled in surprise and anger, quickly turning back to face this new threat, but before he could do anything, the short arrow struck his neck. The cry of pain was almost physically painful for Dín, feeling pity and remorse over hurting such a magnificent creation of Elune.
It was not over yet, however; enraged, driven wild by the pain, the tiger charged to rip apart this strange creature that had been so foolish to invade it’s territory. Dín quickly ran back a few steps, and smiled with hints of sadness. Such a beautiful, strong creature. As the trap he placed earlier, froze the tiger in place, he took careful aim once more, determined to end its suffering.
This time, the arrow pierced through the ice, and struck the animal right between the eyes. The final cry of pain and defeat brought tears to Dín´s eyes, as his met those of the dying tiger. The light in the feral eyes was fading now. Finally, as in slow motion, the mighty animal fell to the ground, and closed his eyes forever. After a short prayer for it, Dín carefully stripped it´s hide off, smiling once more. Yes, this was the finest quality. This was the leather he needed to reinforce Junni´s equipment.
