Chapter 23.
I woke upp this night as if something had kicked me out of sleep, I simply woke upp...nothing, nothing in the sleeping chamber, nothing around the window...the window...had I not closed it as I went to sleep earlier this night?
I took a look around the room, I thought that it might have been a cat or something that had awakened me, I rarely sleep too deep, and I am easily awakened, even by other confederates going to the toilet at night.
A quick search but I found nothing...Neither could I understand why I was so obsessed with something being in the bedchamber, thats the negative part of sleeping alone, you cant ask others if they have noticed something.
I layd down again but could not sleep, something in me kept me awake, as if it depended on my life that I did not close my eyes, finally I had enough and went to my normal bed among the other females in the common sleeping chamber. the others slept well and deep, none awakened as I entered and went to bed, at least not that I noticed.
I tried to sleep but as usual, even the other confederates moving in their beds was almost enough to rip me out of my sleep, but at least I was able to sleep.
Not too much later VERY early in the morning, I was awakened by something at the window, I did not bother to look, since I knew Khalan usually starts off early in the morning...but the thing that worried me was...she is always as gentle as possible to avoid disturbing my sleep, and she is good at it!
I turned around, a creature in dark clothes, moving at an incredible speed lashed at Rissandrea from the window, I moved completely autonymous and shielded Rissandrea with one single hand movement, the creature struck at the same moment as The shield materialized around Rissandrea, a loud ripping sound was heard over the whle building, the usual sound wich follows any attack with a physical weapon on a power word shield.
I jumped out of the bed and threw myself at the creature who punched me in my kidney area, I fell to the ground blacked out as I was, the creature ran after me again, I could hear and feel the rapid footsteps, the fight between us would not last a second, but suddenly I heard the same ripp sound again, Rissandrea was up, and had shielded me, and now Khalan had gotten out of her bed as well, dagger raised, ready to strike, Khalan stood and glared it into its face, but why had she not attacked yet, and then I heard the distinguished sound of a fireball, a frostbolt, an bow being readied with an arrow, the confederacy had awakened and were all standing in their bedclothes with their weapons and spells at bay, ready to kill the intruder the moment it made a move.
The creature did not seem to have eyeholes in its mask covering its whole head but somehow it knew what was going on. within the blink of an eye, it had jumped towards the window and escaped, Khalan imediately launched after it, followed closely by launa.
"Hey! whats going on in there?!"
the voices came from the men in the sleeping chambers on the other side of the hall.
"it's ok boys," Rissandrea yelled back.
"Can we come in"
Ofcourse a couple of girls imediately walked over to their beds and set up the sheet around their beds wich were used to change clothes in the morning. as soon as RIssandrea was sure everybody were ok, she gave them passage.
"It's ok, you can come in now."
Dìnendal, Sabrewind and Naysar were ofcourse the first ones to enter, shortly followed by the Rorque, Njoos and Dark, the rest of the men were rushing down the stairs, checking if there were any intruders in the below floors.
Dinendal imediately walked over to me and tried to help me up on my feet, the kidney area and the area around it were still hurting like hell, I placed one arm around Dìnendal's neck and tried to get up, I just fell to the floor again.
After the commotion had ended, Dinendal had finally managed to get me standing, though I was still hanging with one arm around his neck.
Rissandrea told Tarim to go and search for Khalan and Launa who had stormed after the person or creature or whatever it was.
Rissandrea then turned to me.
"Is your side still hurting Dimi?"
"A bit my lady, i regret that im not able to bow before you as I usually do without falling to the floor."
Rissandrea smiled softly and Dìnendal chuckled.
"Dont worry about it dear, you will find yourself bowing to whoever you wish in not too long, and I have to thank you, then you saved my life upp there."
"You repaid the debt fairly quick my lady."
Rissandrea smiled at me and Dìnendal and and looked at the door a little while before speaking to the guards.
Dìnendal finally spoke to me.
"Without you we would now be short of one triumvirate, you have reason to be proud of yourself."
"I would have a reason to be proud if I had stopped whoever or whatever that was..."
Dinendal laughed.
"Thypical you, your as calm and as normal as any woman outside these walls, but once inside your turning into a soldier who cannot do her job well enough."
I thought about what he said, and sure enough, it was fairly accurate.
"Deal with it or drop me to the floor Dìn."
*Dimi please, we dont want you to die in our cause unless that is absolutely necessary...actually we dont want you to die at all..ah you know how it works...everything for the alliance!"
I sighed and smiled weakly.
"Indeed...everything..."
Tarim returned with both Khalan and Launa, in their bedclothes, in a pretty nice state, they had both recieved a couple of bruises and cuts from what seemed to be a very small dagger and punches but all in all they were fine.
Khalan told Rissandrea and the other high ranking memebers of the confederacy what had happened, it seemed as if this creature had eyes in its back, though they could not see any, it had fought like a "one man army" as Khalan explained it, even if the strikes came from behind it easily dodged and countered almost every move Khalan and Launa had attempted together in the most amazing ways. Even a backstab from Khalan and an eviscerate from launa had it easily evaded, they had almost struck eachother even.
Then Tarim had apeared and shot an arrow after it, wich it easily dodged at the same time both Khalan and Launa had strucked after it, after that it had vanished.
Khalan had both respect and disgust in her voice while talking about whatever it was, she called it nonhuman since how it moved at all should not be possible, not even for an elf. Khalan is a skilled fighter, and I would not like to fight Launa either but whatever this was had a fightingstyle unlike anything anyone had ever seen,.
Khalan spke to the other rogues and made contact with her various informatives but they had either very little or none information about who or what this might be.
The days kept going and no one found out anything, but I was pretty sure we had not heard or seen the last of this creature, we now barred our windows, it made me feel like I was in prison whenever I looked out of the window but I knew it was necessary.
for the time being I could not sleep at night at all, I just kept staring at the window, and some times I could swear something was there...but after I had warned Khalan and awoken the whole house 3 times over I did not bother to warn anyone, I knew they would loose confidence in me if I kept awakening them for something I THOUGHT was there.
Rissy never walked alone these days, she always had at least two members of the confedeacy with her, The sleeping hall was always thouroughly searched before she could enter.
And Solmina could most of the time be found yelling at a guard for not looking enough around or that he had a "Relaxed position while standing on guard"
It was obvious she thought that we were vulnerable.
And she was to become right, to be a guard is tiresome work, and to keep constant watch over your assigned area is hard for all races, including humans, so it was inevitable what would happen next.
Rissandrea was going to some kind of meeting she never told anyone but the confederacy about but everyone knew where she was headed. Either stormwind keep or to take the tram to Ironforge.
And during one of those trips she was assaulted, had it not been for the keen sense of an elven guardsman Rissandrea would have been killed by a poisoned knife flying from a door in a house to her left, the door was standing partiall open, but suddenly it was smashed open and at almost the same instant the knife flew from the entrance towards Rissandrea.
The elven guard imediately threw his shield on the way of the knife, the blade its the shield almost in the dead-centre of what would have been Rissandrea's Kidney had it not stopped it.
The guards were shocked, but quickly regained their mind. they ran into the house only to find it empty.
Khalan examined the knife wich was used against Rissandrea, the poison was potent enough to kill anyone almost instantly, we were just lucky that the elven guardsman had his head on the right place and was in the right position to prevent the assasination.
One night I walked down from the bedchambers and went for a walk in the stormwind park, I still had my freetime clothes on, I did not have my staff nor did I have my wand, I was completely defenseless, or so I wanted it to seem, Khalan was following me, I had not made an agreement with her but I knew she would do so if I simply walked out of the confederacy halls just like that in the middle of the night, Khalan is more of a spy then a killer, she wants to see what happens before she does something about it, unless its too dangerous to find out ofcourse,
I did not know for sure that she was there, I did not look after her in an attempt to lure the assasinator out.
And sure enough, out of nowhere the creature apeared ahead of me, barely 7 meters. I stopped.
"Hm...I thought you would show upp if I walked around alone long enough...is it possible to speak with you without getting killed?"
The creature just stood in front of me, completely immovable, as if it awaited something, I did not understand it untill it was too late, sudenly another one of them appeared from my side, once again punching my kidneys with a fierce strength, my eyesight went black, I was still awake but I could not see, whatever this was it was good.
But just as it was about to reach down on me, Khalan appeared out of nowhere from its side, she did exactly the same to hit and punched it with all her strength in it's side.
The creature jumped away one hand on the spot where Khalan had hit, but it did not go to the ground, it simply stumbled a bit before vanishing again. Khalan imediately threw something upp in the air, it was a flare, she had probably gotten one from Tarim or Dìnendal, regardless the creature imediately lost its stealth capabilities and was VERY obvious to the naked eye.
Khalan launched at it again, but this time it did not try to escape, it stayed, and made itself ready to fight, Khalan imediately stopped, she knew what she was facing and this was no task for one woman alone.
The creature assumed a weird pose, both its weapons risen above its head against each other, both arms risen and turned away from its head and one legg in front of it's leggs straightened out in front of it, the other one made a curve behind it, it was one of the most weird fighting positions Khalan had ever seen, she was confused and slightly nervous, what kind of pose was this? offensive? defensive? a mix?
The creature stood completely immovable in front of her, it was obviously waiting for her to attack.
Khalan remained where she was, I slowly regained my eyesight and what I saw almost made me scream out to khalan to run, yet another one of the creature was walking silently up behind her, but I simply shielded her, and Khalan turned, only to see me laying on the ground, with the creature running towards me.
Khalan imediately turned for the one who made its way to me, and just before it was about to kill me, it disapeared, Khalan stopped and turned for the other one, it was gone.
I tried to get up but it hurted too much.
"Thank you for the escort Khalan, gnnh... seems I needed it."
"Can you stand up dear?"
"Uh...If you can help me upp I can walk."
Khalan pulled me up and placed one of my arms around her neck, she then led me back to the confederacy building where we told Rissandrea and Solmina about what had happened.
I woke upp this night as if something had kicked me out of sleep, I simply woke upp...nothing, nothing in the sleeping chamber, nothing around the window...the window...had I not closed it as I went to sleep earlier this night?
